Visit of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany

The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice O’Donnell, hosted a delegation from the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (Bundesverfassungsgericht), led by Prof. Dr. Stephan Harbarth, Prof. Dr. Ann-Katrin Kaufhold, Vice-President in Dublin on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April 2026, for a bilateral meeting between the two Courts.

This meeting is part of an established programme of judicial exchanges, following earlier bilateral meetings held in Karlsruhe in 2015, Ireland in 2017, and Karlsruhe in 2022. The dialogue provides an opportunity for engagement between the two Courts on topics of shared judicial interest.

Over the course of the two‑day meeting at The Honorable Society of King’s Inns, the Courts exchanged views on a number of core themes, including: the similarities and differences between civil law and common law systems, judicial independence and current issues of European law. The programme included a visit to the Four Courts, the seat of the Supreme Court.
