Probate Portal – Key Information

How to Start using our portal

Contact Courts Portal and register.

Switching from a paper application to Probate Portal

Can I withdraw my lodged paper application and submit it through the Portal?

Yes, you can only if:

  1. Your application is eligible for online submission, and
  2. It has already been submitted but has not yet been processed

How to Withdraw a Manual Application

If you are a solicitor and wish to now apply via Portal, you must send a formal written request confirming withdrawal for the attention of the Probate Officer.

Your request should include:

  1. The name of the deceased
  2. The application reference number (if available)
  3. Any other relevant identifying details (e.g. date of death of deceased)
  4. The reason for withdrawal
  5. Confirmation that the case is eligible for online submission

Important Points to Note:

  1. If your application has already been queried, it cannot be Withdrawn and then applied for via Portal.
  2. If your application is approved for Withdrawal, all papers will be returned to your office.  You will need to apply to our Finance Unit for a refund of your fee.  ( Application for refund of court fees)
  3. You will then need to pay the application fee via Portal when applying online.
  4. The Applicant will now have to complete the Statement of Truth via Portal if applying online.

What can be submitted through the portal?

Applications for Grants of Probate (by solicitors only)

Personal applications

Applications made directly by members of the public. There is currently a 10–12 week waiting time for appointments with the Probate Office in Dublin. Find out more about what to expect at your appointment in the step-by-step guide to applying for probate.
